LIVORNO
Returning a visit made by last season’s Under 19s to Italy, Liverpool St.Helens was delighted to welcome Livorno RFC to play matches against our seniors and U17s on Saturday 10th March at Moss Lane. Livorno Rugby Club was founded in 1931, the second oldest rugby club in Italy.
Former LSH Head Coach Gary French coached Livorno, currently a Serie B side, after playing for a number of seasons with Parma. Gary, son of our President, and whose wife is Italian, played for the LSH team, and was on hand afterwards to translate for Ray as the clubs exchanged momentos of the visit, and as trophies for‘Player of the Match’ for each of the four teams were handed out.
LSH won both matches but the Livorno players and travelling supporters had the consolation, and satisfaction, of watching Italy beat Wales on the club’s TV after the games.
