Southport 30 – 10 LSH
Well beaten, but not disgraced. LSH had beaten Southport 52-14 earlier in the season at Moss Lane. However Southport were better organised and much stronger this time round.
Southport had most of the early play, but we defended well. Southport were rewarded with two well taken tries midway through the first half. LSH threatened, both Lewis and Tom R going close. Two more tries just before half time gave Southport a comfortable 20-0 lead.
The boys, to their credit never gave up. Adam, Josh, Jason and Cian all having an excellent game in the forwards, Charlie and Tom R were both unfortunate not to score in the corner. But it was Southport who scored first in the half before LSH promised a revival scoring through Charlie and Tom R.
Southport scored again on the final whistle for a deserved 30-10 Victory.
Man of the Match – There were several good performances today. The coaches decided to award a joint man of the match to Charlie, who once again provided lessons in tackling to his team mates and Lewis who never gave up, taking control and driving his team mates forward.
Squad: Adam, Charlie, Cian, Harry, Jack, Jake, Jason, Josh, Lewis, Matthew, Max, Tom B (C), Thomas H and Tom R.
Coaches’ Comments – I think the last few weeks of easy wins was in your mind and knowing you have already beaten them this season did not help. You must treat every single game you play in differently and not turn up expecting to win all the time. We were beaten by a lot better Southport side. We have a massive game coming up this weekend against Sefton and we owe them a beating after what they did to us at their place. Please turn up this Sunday with a hunger to win and play well from the very start.
That aside there was some good points that came from the Southport game and that was you willing to play rugby in the second half. If we had played like that from the off it may have been a different result.
Special mentions this week go to Tom R who ran his socks off trying to get through gaps. Also Adam, Josh, Cian and Jason who ran hard all game. Also Lewis whose runs forward showed the forwards what they need to be doing all the time. Also to Charlie who tackled fantasticly all game and who can only make so many tackles before he needs help from his team mates.
See you Sunday lads. Please turn up with your smashing and scoring heads on.
