Game One Southport v LSH

LSH started well, driving forward and tackling strongly. Rhys made a great tackle and LSH kept the pressure on Southport. When a loose pass was thrown out Ruari anticipated brilliantly to intercept and race home to score. Southport responded quickly with a close range try. Joseph made a strong run and Ruari nearly intercepted again but it was Southport who took the lead. Peter and Jacob were both in the action and Rhys started to rack up the tackles, however, it was another inspired interception from Ruari that brought LSH level creating a deserved try for Peter.

Rhys picked up from the base of the scrum and scorched through the Southport defence to put LSH in front, but again Southport responded. Josh was strong in the maul, allowing Jacob to pick up and feed Jack to score. Jack then showed his defensive mettle with a great tackle to deny Southport, as there was nothing between the sides. Further tries from Rhys and Ruari were cancelled out by scores from Southport. The stage was set for a heroic finish and Joseph duly obliged with two late tries reminiscent of Kieran Cunningham in his prime !

Game Two Southport v LSH

A few changes for LSH who were immediately on the attack and dominated possession. It was a while before LSH broke through, but a great move involving Jacob and Ruari was eventually finished off by Rhys. Unfortunately, LSH were not quite as committed in defence allowing Southport to equalise with their very first attack. Harry made some strong runs and Ruari, Peter and Rhys all went close but were denied by resolute Southport defending. Another piece of fast thinking from Ruari saw him race through a gap at the line out to score again. Rhys prevented a Southport try with some great tackling before Benj weaved through Southport’s defenders to score a third LSH try.
Half Time Southport 10 LSH 15

Southport levelled the match at the start of the second half and it became a real arm wrestle as each side tried to grab an advantage. Ryan, Tom and Jacob worked hard for LSH before Alistair made the vital breakthough to secure another win for LSH.
