TAG RUGBY FESTIVAL (July 2010)
The Special Summer Tag Rugby Festival hosted by Liverpool St Helens Rugby Union club has been hailed as a massive success. A joint initiative between the RFU and LSH, the tournament was specifically for children and young people with moderate to severe learning disabilities.

John Foster, Community Rugby Coach, said “It was absolutely brilliant. Although the weather wasn’t too kind there were almost one hundred boys and girls trying their best and enjoying themselves”.
Schools from Fazackerley, Litherland, Runcorn; St Helens, Southport; Widnes took part in the event which feeds into the North West Regional Festival to be held in Blackburn later this year. Youngsters from the schools received coaching sessions prior to the event, a significant factor in its ultimate success.

The event was organised and managed by a group of Edge Hill University Sports Development students as part of their degree module. “We began preparing for the event six months ago” said second year student Leah Nixon. “It has been hard work but the end result has been fantastic”.

LSH President Ray French was full of praise for everyone involved. “The young people from Edge Hill and the RFU coaches worked really hard to prepare everyone” he said. “This is one event where it really is the taking part that counts”.

(The students involved were Leah Nixon, Leanne Williams, Kirsty Thomas, Christina Dunkers, Ashley Stephenson, Ryan Millington, Adam Farrell and Daniel Bullock).
